SULFLAX Sulflax formula is a compound containing equal parts of sulphur, cream of tartar and Rochelle salts, which was recommended in about 40 readings, Cayce frequently emphasized the importance of stirring this mixture thoroughly, and often suggested the use of a mortar and pestle for this purpose. In some versions Epsom salts was indicated instead of Rochelle salts. Because of the importance of thorough mixing, we suggest that those preparing this formula on their own use the services of a pharmacist. According to the readings, the Sulflax mixture acts as a blood purifier, which helps to stimulate and coordinate the elimination functions. It was frequently mentioned in for general purification and cleansing. As one reading commented, “This would be taken as a cleanser for the whole system.” [1711-1] Sulflax may be preferable to other supplements because it is mild and does not create a dependency. However only if the body doesn’t over exert: “It is well to use same. It is not habit-forming, it will not injure the intestinal tract nor cause any great disturbance - if there is the minimal activity of the body.” [2843-4] Other precautions can be found as well. The most notable one is to avoid getting the feet wet and the body chilled, since at this time the system will be more susceptible to colds: “As we find, these properties which we will indicate are the better to purify the system, provided the taking of same is in keeping with the activities of the body and the body doesn’t get the feet wet or damp during the periods that these would be taken, For, if they did, it might rebound or cause more ill disturbance than help! This doesn’t mean that you can’t take a bath during the time, but you mustn’t get out in the snow or rain or wet, or to have the body damp from the rain or the like! For this will tend to open the pores, the taking of these properties, and is effective upon the whole of the circulation, purifying and coordinating the whole of the circulation through [the] alimentary canal, the activity of the liver, the respiratory system, and the flow and activity of the kidneys. “These should purify the body.” [2462-30] In a similar vein, one individual was advised against wearing shoes “with the feet wet, for it would cause disturbance in other portions of the body.” [3678-1] Another was also told to avoid spending too much time in a standing position: “Do not get them [the feet] wet as from outdoor activity, or housework. Do not allow the body to become too tired from standing on the feet too long. For, these would tend to aggravate rather than to aid in better eliminations. For, under the wet conditions, the body would be more easily susceptible to cold. [2455-1] Dietary precautions sometimes accompanied the Sulflax recommendations as well. Here are some typical statements: “Do not eat excesses of starch or fats during these periods.” [2462-3] “We would have those foods that will make for body building, with not too great an amount of weight but those that tend - as it were - to make for a laxative reaction for the body; as citrus fruit juices, raw fresh vegetables, any of the cereals (though these should not be taken on the same day, or at the same meal at least, with the citrus fruit juices); whole wheat as a mush, and things of such natures would be more preferable for the body during the four days the above mixture is being taken.” [357-5] “Then drink plenty of water through the day, at least six to eight tumblers [glasses] full.” [2341-1] One individual was advised to avoid eating fish and shellfish during this period, and others were told to eat very little meat. In a few readings the apple diet, which also aids in cleansing the system, was recommended. One individual was advised to take Atomidine after three or four days of Sulflax: “Then” take ONE minim [drop] of Atomidine in half a glass of water before the morning meal each day for three or four days. Then leave this off for a day. Then begin with taking the combination or compound as indicated for three to four more days. Then this may be left off for several days - three, four to five. Then begin all over again; and keep these up from time to time until the system has purified itself. [1711-1] In other cases, the use of Castoria, a mild senna-based laxative, was indicated: “After these properties [Sulflax] have been taken and have acted upon the system... we find it would be well to take a full day of the Fletcher’s Castoria. This would be taken half a teaspoonful every hour until there is the absorption in the system and the elimination or activity from same.” [357-5] “As we find, it would be well to first cleanse the system of the effects of those properties which have been indicated - that is, the sulphur and other properties — by the use of Castoria AND the alkalizer that has been indicated (the Magnesia) continued for at least two or three days.” [1208-16] In most recommendations the Sulflax compound was to be taken daily, until the amount mixed together (normally three tablespoonfuls) had been exhausted. Since a typical daily dosage was one level teaspoonful, this would take about nine days in the average recommendation, although users are reminded that Cayce’s instructions could vary widely. The prescribed amount was to be taken in the morning before meals. Some readings found that it could be taken either dry or in water, while others were more specific: “The dose would be a level teaspoonful of the mixture each day, stirred in a glass of water—preferably hot water, so that the assimilations of this will make for the activity through the system.” [357-5] From these accounts, as well as the Chinese influence, we can conclude that the slippery elm acts as a coating along the inner lining of the upper and lower intestinal tract. This can, not only prevent seepage of toxins, but helps the healing process of the thin, porous intestinal walls as well as aids in evacuation. | |
